Honors from the NW WA Fair

I’ve been away for a while, but very busy. Can’t believe my last post was in June! I entered a number of quilts in the fair this year that won some ribbons, as well as some of my clients which also won ribbons. So I will list and show them below.

The first one is called “The ’39”. The car was “built off the quilt” and appliqued onto the background. All machine applique and quilted on my longarm. It was awarded a blue ribbon and also won a Viewer’s Choice on the first day of the fair.

The next one is “Room for One More”. It is a whole cloth painted and machine quilted quilt. It was awarded a blue ribbon.

The next one is “Journey’s End: The Bridge of the Gods”. This was a challenge to create a quilt based on Cheryl Strayed’s book “Wild”. It was awarded a blue ribbon.

The next one is a group quilt created by a group I’m a member of called “The Grateful Threads”. Besides myself the other members are Jan Furrenes, Dianna Sarich, Paula Graham, and Sharon Robinson. Many techniques were used and 3 of us quilted it….so it was truly a group effort. It was awarded a blue ribbon and “Best of Division”.

This last entry is not a quilt (yet!) but rather a colored pencil drawing that I submitted to the Art Dept at the fair. It was awarded a blue ribbon and “Best of Lot”.

A few of my client’s quilts also won ribbons at the fair. The first one here was pieced/appliqued by Janet Eerkes. Her Sunbonnet Sue won a blue ribbon and “Best of Quilts”.

I also quilted the raffle quilt for Evergreen Quilt Guild. We will raffle it off at next year’s show in Sept 2015. It is titled “Starry Starry Night” in honor of a member, Mary Arrington who passed away in July. Her maiden name was Starr. It was a pleasure to quilt and bind. We were all thrilled that it was awarded a blue ribbon and “Best of Show”.

The next quilt was created by Pam Hobart. She received a blue ribbon on Glacier Star. She also received a blue ribbon as well as “Best of Wallhanging” on a wool applique quilt that I quilted. I’m sorry I don’t have a photo of this one. I had trouble uploading it to this blog. I was also told that Florence DiJulio also received a blue ribbon on her modern quilt wall hanging that I quilted, which again, I don’t have a photo . If I can get these photos, I post them on another blog.

So it has been a good year for me. Three of these quilts (The ’39; Room for One More; Petunia Patch) have also been juried into the LaConner Quiltfest in October. Keep you posted on that coming up in about a month! I hope you have enjoyed viewing these quilts.

Have a great Labor Day Weekend!
